Electronic Literature, as defined by the Electronic Literature Organization, is "work with an important literary aspect that takes advantage of the capabilities and contexts provided by the stand-alone or networked computer." Often textual in nature, electronic literature takes cues from programming languages, film, animation, and visual art. However, programming languages and the delivery platforms used to create and show digitally-derived projects are quickly outdated. This tendency creates a problem in archiving and preserving works made with technology. Through the use of much older technologies, works using the stand-alone or networked computer can be archived and / or rendered anew. Artists interested in preserving or considering alternative versions of their work have little opportunity to do so outside of the web. There Is No Bottom press (TINB) is one tool that hopes to help further the opportunities available to this community by offering a crisp, creative, and small press dedicated to archiving the growing number of digitally-derived, or digitally-motivated, text-based works.
